A three night backpacking trip with my son beginning on 12.27.22 at Davenport Gap along the northeast boundary of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and taking the Appalachian Trail south up to Davenport Gap Shelter. On day two we continued south on the AT to Cosby Knob Shelter. The next day my son continues south on the AT and then takes Snake Den Ridge Trail down to Cosby, while I backtrack north on the AT to Low Gap and take the Low Gap Trail down to Cosby. Then we both take Lower Mt. Cammerer Trail, separately, to backcountry campsite #35. On our final day we continue on the Lower Mt. Cammerer Trail to the AT and hike north back to Davenport Gap.

A two night backpacking trip up Big East Fork in Shining Rock Wilderness with my son over Thanksgiving weekend 2022. Our initial plan was to take Big East Fork Trail, then Greasy Cove Trail to Art Leob Trail and down Shining Creek Trail back to the Big East Fork Trail Head. However, on Saturday morning I turned by ankle at camp, so we camped our second night at the junction of Big East Fork Trail and Greasy Cove Trail. On Sunday my son completed the initial loop and I backtracked back to the Big East Fork Trail Head. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video. On day two we continue down Conasauga River Trail and then take Panther Creek Trail up to Panther Creek Falls. A six day backpacking trip in Mt. Zirkel Wilderness with David Knaus (Coach). This trip started at the Seedhouse Trail Head and takes the CDT north, then Trail Creek Trail to the West Fork Trail. We then follow the West Fork Trail to the Main Fork Trail and go south along the Encampment River, with a short bushwack up to Lake Diana. Next we go back to the Main Fork Trail and continue south and drop down to North Fork Elk River and then west back to the CDT. Finally we take the CDT south back to the Seedhouse Trail Head. This 7 day backpacking trip with my son started at the Big Sandy Lake Trail Head and followed Trail 099 to Big Sandy Lake and then Trail 098 up to Clear Lake. On day 3 we backtracked to Trail 099 and climbed over Jackass Pass down to Lonesome Lake in the Cirque of Towers. The next day we took an unofficial trail over Texas Pass and down to Billy’s Lake, the third lake from Texas Pass. On day 5 we continue down Washakie Creek and then up to May’s Lake on Trail 111. Next we go off trail over a small ridge and drop into the East Fork River drainage and downstream to the CDT, then go south on the CDT to Dad’s Lake. Our final day we continue south on the CDT to Trail 099 and back to Big Sandy Trail Head.

A three night backpacking trip in Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Creek Wilderness commencing at Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and hiking up Naked Ground Trail. On day two the trip continues up Naked Ground Trail then out to Hangover where my son meets me. Tipi Walter comes by our camp on day three and we talk for a couple of hours. After Tipi leaves my son and I decide to camp at Hangover for another night. On day four we take Haoe Lead Trail to the Maple Springs Trailhead and my son drives me back to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.

A three night backpacking trip with my son beginning at the Lewis Fork Trailhead and camping along Cliffside Trail the first night. On day 2 we continue up Cliffside Trail to Pine Mountain Trail to Crest Trail to Scales. Then we take the AT over Stone Mountain and camp along Wilson Creek. My son leaves on the morning of day 3 and I continue along the AT through Grayson Highlands State Park then take the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail to Cabin Ridge, where I camp. On day 4 I continue on the VHHT to Deep Gap and cut over to the AT briefly to the Mt. Rogers Trail. Next I take the Lewis Fork Spur Trail to the Lewis Fork Trail and then Cliffside Trail back to the Lewis Fork Trail to the trailhead.

A two night backpacking trip with Shawn Nichols in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park beginning at the Anthony Creek Trail Head, and then hiking up Anthony Creek to Russell Field Trail to Campsite #10. On day 2 we continue up Russell Field Trail to the Appalachian Trail, then north on the AT. At Spence Field we do an out and back on the AT up to Rocky Top. After returning to Spence Field, we take Bote Mountain Trail to Anthony Creek Trail to Campsite #9. With a long drive home Shawn left at 7:30 AM on the third day, while I stayed at camp. A three night backpacking trip beginning at Devil’s Fork Gap and hiking south on the Appalachian Trail to Flint Gap. On day two I leave the AT and hike down Flint Creek through Lamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park to upper Rocky Fork Creek and camp on a ridge line above the headwaters. Day three I continue along the ridge up to the Big Butt Trail and take it to the AT. Then it’s north on the AT to a small flat area next to a branch where I make a camp. The final day I continue north on the AT back to Devil’s Fork Gap.
